6 lakh engineering seats scrapped in last 5 years, fewer students seeking admissions

As per a report in the Sakal Times, last year, the All India Technical Council Education (AICTE) had stated that the council will not approve any new engineering colleges from the academic year 2020-21. The decision had come after a major decline in engineering admissions and almost 50 per cent vacancies in these colleges. As a result, in today’s time, the engineering colleges and institutions have applied for the scrapping of seats and some have even opted for the closure of the colleges.
