A 14-year-old Indian origin boy, Aditya Choudhury from Singapore, and a 16-year-old girl Ananya Mukerji from India have been declared as the senior winner and runner-up respectively for the 2020 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition. This contest is the world’s oldest contest which was launched in 1883.

The results were declared during a virtual awards ceremony. The event was hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall. The theme of the competition was ‘Climate action in the Commonwealth’. Aditya had written the essay on ‘Voices from the Blue World’, which imagines a grouper fish speaking about the impact of climate change underwater. The Mukerji wrote the essay on ‘The Waters Rise’, which imagines an impassioned call to recognize the impact of climate change on small island-states.
