Rajya Sabha has passed the Indian Institute of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill 2020. The Bill seeks to declare the five newly established IIITs as the institutes of national importance. These Five IIITs are in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala & Raichur. This Bill has already been passed by Lok Sabha in the previous session on March 20, 2020. These Five IIITs are now functioning as Societies registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. But with this bill they will now be covered under the IIIT (PPP) Act, 2017 similar to the other 15 IIITs established under the scheme in PPP mode.
