Everyone is aware of the fact that the actual college life and society is not exactly what it is shown in movies. The actual picture is very different and beautiful as well. You will be living far from home, in your society, where you will be learning how to socialize yourself and manage relations with others (humans are social animals though).
Irrespective of your college, there are different categories and types of people you will be living with or dealing with. Seniors, juniors, batchmates, faculty, girlfriend, close-friends and, some alpha males or bullies are the members of a typical college society. The word ‘society’ is emphasized here because there will be people to talk about you, judge you, criticize you and very few to support you. We will be discussing every class of Indian college society in detail.
Batchmates
Batchmates are the members of the college society you will be interacting with most of the time. Your friends, your roommates, your classmates and, even soulmates may be from this class of your college society. So it is very important to maintain healthy relations with batchmates.
With batchmates, you will be having deep conversations about a crush, relationships and, life. Chai(tea) and sutta(cigarette) at tapri (roadside stalls) during breaks or after classes are the way to refresh and prepare yourself for the rest of the day. If you are lucky enough, one of your batchmates can be your soulmate. That feeling of exploring new places and discovering the actual taste of the city together with your love is a feeling which cannot be described in words. But also, you will be dealing with heartbreaks and breakups. Good thing is that you will be having friends around you to make you feel better.
In college life, classrooms are also a memorable part. Those mischiefs at back-bench, mass bunks, personal bunks, proxy (your friend marks your attendance in your absence), back gate entry or exits, etc are the things which make the college classrooms different from stereotype school classrooms. Branch outings are also a very interesting type of adventure when your whole branch will be going to the same place together. Also, there will be a CR (class-representative or monitor) elected by you. Their job is to inform students about events, classes, submitting assignments, etc. Personal advice is not to become CR and enjoy college days as a normal student.
Seniors
They are your guide in your college life. In the beginning, your interaction with seniors will be minimum but by the end of the year, you will be having them as friends. Wishing them morning, afternoon, and evening is a good strategy to get parties without any reason. But first, you have to go through an introductory session in which you have to introduce yourself to seniors in pure Hindi. If you say a single word in English, then you have to start from the beginning. This may seem unnecessary to you in the beginning but it is necessary for them to know you and to open you up in front of them. But the real thrill comes during college festivals. Seniors will be having higher positions in clubs and will be guiding you during your practice sessions. Those day-long practice schedules are the time when you will know them better. But not just that, afterfest parties are the reason why first-year newbies participate actively in volunteering for festivals and make them successful.
But wait, how can you forget the fresher’s party? Seniors contribute to fresher’s party to make it memorable for you. So we can say that yes, seniors are one of the most important pillars of college society as they represent their college. No one can deny this fact that a college is made by its students.
Juniors
If you are in second-year or third-year of your college, then you are like teenagers in your college society. You will be having siblings as seniors and juniors as your younger siblings. So you are expected to be sensible and responsible at the same time. It’s good to be a senior but with some responsibilities as well. Juniors are freshers who are in the changing phase of their life and it’s your job to guide them in the right direction to use their youthful energy for the welfare of the college. Also, having fearless and positive interaction with them is your job. It’s your task to make them feel like a friend and make them share everything.
If they are going out from campus for parties with you or for representing the college in competitions then you have to play the role of their guardians as well. So we can say that juniors are future representatives of the college and it’s the job of seniors to make them shine.
Faculty
“Extreme important announcement”, never mess with faculty members or be ready to face consequences. Your tone should be polite and should not sound harsh while talking to your professors or other dignitaries. In the beginning, you will be introduced to the college faculty in the introductory session and welcome-address of the director. Try not to come into the eyes of professors during classes, like talking loudly, coming late, not giving proper respect or not completing assignments, get caught while marking proxy or due to some other reason. Your least interaction will be with the director. You can grab the chance of meeting the director in person in three ways. I would suggest you not to take the last way to meet him and be remembered for good.
(1) Achieving something glorious.
(2) In the club’s meetings.
(3) Doing big mischiefs or due to short attendance.
Faculty members are like elder ones in your society and are there to make sure that you excel and make your life successful. One thing should be kept in mind that if you have the support of your college faculty, then you can grow exceptionally well. So try to have healthy relations with your faculty.
